Since winter 2023, The Old Deanery has opened its doors as an exclusive dining experience, with renowned chef Adam Jackson at the helm.  If you haven’t been to The Old Deanery recently, you haven’t been to The Old Deanery.  Now, with the addition of Adam Jackson and Alex Stainsby to the team, The new Old Deanery is born.

In January, The Old Deanery will be open from Thursday mornings until Sunday afternoons (also open Wednesdays in other months), serving a signature tasting menu each evening.  During the daytime, grazing boards will be available to enjoy alongside drinks in the bar or garden.

Adam brings with him a buzz of excitement, having a collection of awards and accreditations to his name, and a list of some of the top restaurants on his CV.  Adam was head chef at the Black Swan at Oldstead, where he helped win its first Michelin star in 2012.  He then set up his own restaurant, the Park in Marmadukes Townhouse hotel which gained three AA rosettes.

Why choose between an escape to the country or a city break when you can have both?  The Old Deanery blends country house grandeur, with city centre convenience, and small-town charm.  The Old Deanery has 10 bedrooms, which may be taken on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.  Due to the limited availability and high demand, booking early is essential.

Dining at The Old Deanery is an immersive experience, and you move through the building as you dine.  Arrive into the cosy welcome lounge for pre-dinner drinks; chat, get comfortable, and relax – there will be no classical piano and hushed tones in here!  Move through to the bar where you can watch some of the chefs work before they invite you to take your first course.  The main event takes place in the restaurant, but forget white tablecloths and stilted service; the food may be formal but the atmosphere is not.  Finally, you can retire after dinner to a cosy chair and enjoy a coffee and petits fours.  Stay the night and enjoy views of either the lovely garden, or striking Cathedral.  Then wake to a home-made breakfast board of granola, yoghurt, continental bites, and cooked goodness:  A breakfast with a difference, and the best way to sign off your stay.
