History
A Jacobean mansion house with a rich history...
The oldest part of The Old Deanery was constructed in 1625, during the reign of King Charles I to attract high-profile leadership to the cathedral. As each new Dean took residence in the building, they would often add an extension with a new plaque and a new date on it, meaning that if you look around you may see signs referring to both 1625 and 1799. Today the Dean of Ripon lives just around the corner, and The Old Deanery has been a hospitality venue for many years, with the last Dean of Ripon not having lived here since the 1940s.
